Priya Saibel

Priya Saibel is a graduate research trainee at CAMH and a PhD Student in Sociocultural and Medical Anthropology at the University of Toronto. Her research explores the wellbeing of African refugee communities over time who were resettled in Canada as part of the United Nations durable solutions for refugees. With special attention paid to intergenerational, gendered, and ethnicized experiences of belonging, Priya’s research looks to highlight the work undertaken by refugees to build community and foster wellbeing in the diaspora. She has worked in non-governmental organizations in Botswana in HIV/AIDS prevention programs targeting children and youth, and has worked to support the development of mobile health technologies in the United Arab Emirates, specifically for diabetes and chronic disease management. She is passionate about building stronger communities and also volunteers as a community mediator.
