Lucas Makhlouf

Lucas Makhlouf is a Research Trainee in the Predictive Care Lab and a second-year undergraduate student studying Medical Anthropology at the University of Toronto. He is a recipient of the T-CAIREM (Temerty Centre for AI Research and Education in Medicine) Summer Studentship.

Under the mentorship of Dr. Laura Sikstrom, Lucas is contributing to the development of a knowledge-user-informed ethical framework to guide health systems considering the implementation of violence risk prediction models in mental health settings. This project employs a multi-method approach to ensure the framework is grounded in ethical principles and informed by diverse perspectives.

Lucas has also been actively involved in public policy advocacy through his work with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), where he helped secure government funding for clinical trials and mental health support for individuals living with Type 1 Diabetes. This experience has shaped his commitment to addressing social inequalities in medical care and deepened his understanding of the intersection between policy and public health.

Passionate about healthcare equity and advocacy, Lucas plans to pursue a career in law, specializing in human rights and medical ethics. He aims to drive meaningful policy change and amplify the voices of underrepresented communities within healthcare and technology.
